Apple has recently launched its new MacBook Pro that is a 13-inch edition of this flagship device. The noticeable thing about this 13-inch MacBook pro is that, it comes with a retina display screen. In this post, we are going to present a simple review of the device so you can know what has been added in it by Apple.
Hardware and Design
There are two Retina-class notebooks available in the market and both are same in thickness. If we take a look at the 13-inch model, it is slightly thicker than its previous model. The total weight of the device is 3.57 pounds; it has a width of 12.35 inches and a depth of 8.62 inches. However, it doesn’t mean that you cannot carry this device easily with you. Just hold it in your hand, flip it and throw it in your bag and you are ready to go. So far, we are impressed with the hardware design of this device.
There are various storage options for this MacBook. There is 128GB of flash memory and then different storage options include 256GB, 512GB and 768GB. The default processor used in this device is a 2.5GHz Core i5. On the other hand, the 15-inch model is using a core i7 quad core processor. You have the option to get an i7 chip on your 13-inch MacBook pro but that will be dual core not quad core. The RAM is of 8GB fixed having 1600MHz frequency and using DDR3L technology. There is no option to change the RAM.
If we talk about the display specs of MacBook Pro 13-inch then these are not as impressive as compared to the 15-inch sibling but hey, it is a 13-inch model so just give it some space to breath. The screen resolution is set to 2560×1600 pixels. The pixel density of this device is 227ppi which is higher as compared to the 220ppi of 15-inch MacBook. However, if you will keep both devices in front of you, it will be hard to spot a difference.
Apple has actually launched two different models of 13-inch MacBook Pro retina display. The first one is 2.5GHz Core i5-3120M Dual-Core (3MB L3 cache) while the second one is 2.9GHz Core i7-3520M Dual-Core (4MB L3 cache). Both models are using 8GB of RAM and OS used in both the devices is Mac OS 10.8.2.
MacBook has always been famous for its long lasting battery time so we decided to take a look at the battery performance of this newly introduced MacBook Pro 13-inch retina display. It has a 30 days standby battery charge which is quite good. We charged the device completely and started using it to see how far it can go in one charge. We were browsing the internet over Wi-Fi, there was some music in the background, and we watched a couple of YouTube videos and also did some emailing and stuff. The brightness was set to half and we managed to keep it running for almost six straight hours.
