Facebook is designed for social interaction and making new friends. Not only that you can interact with your friends in a better and innovative way but you can also make new friends from different walks of life who also use Facebook. Well, who doesn’t use Facebook these days? I still remember the time when I started using Facebook for the first time. Just like many other people I had also migrated from Orkut to Facebook so I had decided from day one that I will keep my Facebook profile very neat and organized. For this reason, it was important that I added only those people to whom I know personally or at least I have met them once in my life. Secondly, I wanted to make sure that people to whom I don’t know should not send friend requests.
So, from day one, my policy has been to only accept friend requests from those people to whom I know and to only send friend requests to those people that know me. This is a simple formula that has always worked for me on Facebook. However, at the same time, I also wanted to block other people from searching my Facebook profile either by using Facebook search or any other search engine. For this reason, I came up with a solution that was actually provided by Facebook. With the passage of time, many changes have been made to Facebook so the features that used to be available in a particular section may not be present there anymore.
In this post, I will be talking about hiding your Facebook profile from those who are not in your circle. This will help you maintain your privacy and stay away from spammers and hackers that seem to be very active on social media.
I’m sharing the process of removing yourself from Facebook Search. Keep in mind that once you will be done with all the below described steps, no one will be able to search your Facebook profile. However, you can change the settings anytime you want.
Look at the top left corner of your Facebook screen where you will find “Home” written just beside your name and a small picture. There will be a small arrow pointing downwards; click on it and a drop down menu will appear.
In this menu, you will be able to see a list of the pages that you own and a few other options like Account Settings and Privacy Settings. You need to click on “Privacy Settings” here.
A new window will appear where you can find many other options. The very first option will be about “How to Connect”. Just in front of this option, you will find a link stating “Edit Settings”. Click on it and proceed to the next window.
In the new menu, you will find a text written “Who can look you up using the email address or phone number you provided?” and there will be a drop down menu just in front of it. Change it from Public to Friends and no body except your friends will be able to search your Facebook profile from Facebook search.
