With stiff competition between Apple and Google, it is really difficult to transfer data from your Android device to an Apple computer. Even if you are using your data cable, connecting your Android smartphone can be really difficult with your OS X. Sometimes, OS X completely denies to recognize your Android device and this can be a difficult condition for you. However, what if I tell you that you don’t need data cables anymore to connect your Android handset with your Apple computer. What if your Android Phone could act as a networking device? What if your Mac and Android could coordinate with each other wirelessly? There is an app in Google Play Store called Droid NAS that can do this job for your Android and Mac. With the help of this app, your Mac will automatically recognize your Android device as a network connector and you will be able to transfer data easily.
Step 1: Initial Startup
The best thing about Droid NAS is that, it is really simple and easy to use. You don’t need to be a tech savvy person to setup this app in your smartphone. As soon you will launch the app, it will ask you about the destination folder. Select a folder on your SD card that should be used as the data sharing point. Any data transferred from your Mac will be saved in that folder.
The interface of Dorid NAS is very simple. The design is straightforward that makes it easy to operate the application. You will only see those options on screen that are important for you.
Step 2: Transfer and Access Files Remotely
Once you are done with the first step in which you had launched the app and a server connection had been established between your Android and Mac, it is time to move onto step number 2. You should open the network finder in your Apple computer. This will show you a list of open networks available. Look up for the name you had given to your device. As soon as you find the name of your Android device, connect it with your Mac. That is it; your connection with Mac has been established. It means that now you can transfer data from your Mac to Android phone easily.
There is no doubt that Droid NAS is really a wonderful app and if you use it properly, you can get a lot of work done. However, this device uses Samba protocol and if you are a network administrator then you know that Samba protocol doesn’t work fine with Windows OS. So, if you will try to use your Android phone as a networking device with your computer where Windows OS is installed, you may not get any success. I’m sure that developers of this app already have this point in mind and we will see some improvements in the coming upgrades of this app.
